We still need to defund the police
My statement originally published on Facebook on June 5th 2020.

The cops who are resigning right now aren’t resigning because they care about justice. They're resigning in protest of how some of them (a very tiny fraction) are actually being charged with crimes and held accountable for their brutality in very small ways.
None of them are in prison yet. None of them had their pensions taken away. None of them have been fined. No police unions have been outlawed. No police departments have been totally defunded and abolished. None of them have actually paid any real price. But they're having a tantrum because their superiors are making tiny symbolic motions of accountability to try to placate We The People.
This is the reality of cops. They are a criminal patriarchal gang who brutalize The People and demand to do so with full protection from the State. That was the job they wanted and that was the job they got. That's why any decent person who tries to be a cop is weeded out so they're not an obstacle to the cops' criminal activities of murder, rape, torture, terrorism, drug dealing, sex trafficking, pedophilia, conspiracy, corruption, and so much more.
This is why cops must be abolished. They must be stripped of all weapons (for life, not just while they're cops). They must be completely defunded. Their unions must be outlawed now and forever. Their lawyers must be disbarred for aiding and abetting their criminal activities. They must all be charged and found guilty of the multiple offenses they have committed over the years including being each other's accomplices as they covered up for each others' crimes. They were paid to protect and serve and they violated that contract every single day with their criminal gang activities. They must pay a significant price for so much evil.
All the money these criminals have leached from The People over the years must be repaid in full. Their pay. Their benefits. Their pensions. Their union fees. Their funding from the state. Their vacation time. Their precinct buildings. Their weapons, their armor, their cars, their tanks. Everything. They owe The People, and they must pay it back WITH INTEREST.
And all that money must be put straight into supporting and rebuilding the communities of color the cops have harmed for so long. It should go towards sustainable housing, healthcare (including mental health treatment), food sovereignty, public transit, childcare, support for survivors, youth mentoring, transformative justice practices, addiction rehabilitation, recreating the welfare safety net, and so much more.
They also owe damages to the families of all the people they've murdered over the years. And the survivors they've trafficked, the children they've exploited, the innocent people they've put in prison - all of those people are owed damages. That needs to be paid too. EVERY PENNY.
That and only that will be justice. Not just charging a couple of cops (they'll drop those charges in a few months, I guarantee it.)
DEMAND JUSTICE AND NOTHING BUT JUSTICE.
